Hey everyone,
This week is it! The first VRay video tutorial ever! I’ve had enough time to fool around with this renderer to start putting together some thoughts and videos. So far I’m very impressed with how easy it is to get some great effects (almost like Vue Infinite). This Monday Movie will show you how shockingly easy it is to get some nice outdoor lighting in a warehouse model I made for the next few videos. Next week we’ll look at indoor lighting using the area lights, and then we’ll move on to materials.
A few things I’m a little disappointed with in VRay but I’m going to hold off judgement until I’m really certain I have a feel for the product. As it stands, though, I wouldn’t pay $1,000 USD for it. At least not until Chaos Group decides to respond to my e-mail. 😉

Hello,
I’m a pretty experienced user now with VRay and I was wondering how come your vray sun works perfectly with a standard camera. By this I mean that typically if I follow the exact same process I end up with a blown out scene unless I turn the light multiplier right down to somewhere in the region of 0.02! Typically the solution to this problem is to use a VRay Physical Camera, but you don’t seem to have done this? Curious as to what the difference is.
Thanks

I do believe he’s facing the same problem. If you look carefully at the direct patches of lighting and window gaps there’s serious blowing out of light. The only reason it’s not a real problem is that everything’s indoors.
If you wanted to get great results i’d suggest turning down the main sun and adding some sky portals or plane lights in the windows. It would make the lighting quality so much higher.
