This is a simple script that you can use to create bundles of wires with ease in 3d Studio Max. Just drop the .MS file into your <3dsMax>/stdplugs/stdscripts folder. Then it’ll show up in your “Customize>Customize User Interface…” window, under the “Bluesummers” Category. Bind it up to a hotkey and you’re good to go!
Click this link to download the WireBundle_0.90.zip. To install, just download the zip file and decompress it into your <3dsMax>/stdplugs/stdscripts folder. You can also run it directly by running it from the Maxscript menu.

Hey Carl,
That’s not good. I haven’t tried it on that version. Can you link me to a screenshot of what you’re seeing or some steps to reproduce the issue?

Thanks Carl. I think this is a problem with my sloppy code rather than with that specific version of Max. Let me try cleaning it up a little and get back to you.
Can you also provide the text in that error box? I can’t seem to read it…

I’m also getting this problem. I also use Max 2011 x64.

Hello, I am using 3ds Max 2010 x86, and I have the same issue that Carl is having. Just thought it would be good to clarify that the issue is not with x64 versions only, would really love to see this sweet script working on 2010. 🙂

I get the same error while using MAX 2009 🙁

Dah; I lose. Alright fellas, sit tight. I’ll see what I can do to clear this up.
Not to be a pest, but can someone give me a click-by-click reproduction of the bug? This works perfectly in Max 2009 for me…

Sure thing, once again this is on 2010 x86.

I just threw in a random test spline. The same exact thing happens when trying to route the wires through objects. The red circle is indicating that the screenshot occured after pressing “create bundle.” Hope this helps.

[Smacks head] I think I see it…sit tight!
Thanks for the images, Jay!

Updated, it should be working now.
It was a stupid mistake- MaxScript functions need to be declared before they’re used, and I didn’t check that before releasing v.85. I’ve fixed this and it should be working normally now. Please continue to report any other bugs!
To say “I’m sorry” for making such a painfully dumb mistake, I’ve added a feature you’ll like. The wire bundle now faithfully follows the parent spline. So if you use Bezier handles, the wire bundle will take on those handles, too. No more refinement (like in my demo video).
Enjoy!

WOW!! awesome 😀
thank you so much for fixing MrBlue 😀

Works like a charm now, I had the same problem when trying 0.85 on Max 2009 x86.
Thanks a lot! 😀

Hey, this is a very cool script, and I just have one question 🙂
When I try to enter the vertex subobjectmode of one of the created splines…it crahes max (2010 x64) instantly.
Is that supposed to happen?
By larvantholos August 8, 2011 - 9:58 am
Hey, this is a neat script, but I note that when you “fixed” the script to follow splines, they do so explicitly, which is a problem if you want to make a bundle out of them, they endup all overlapped over each other. Is this intended?

Hello,
I’ve tried your script and i find it very usefull. Thank you.
But there is a little problem, when i want to close the script it doesn’t close.
It stay at the screen and i can’t use it again or close it. Bizarre!
I use max 2011 32 bits. Could you explain me what’s the problem please?
Thank you.
