Hey Everyone!
This week I made an entry for 3dTotal’s Speed Modeling Challenge. This week’s topic was creating a television, so I made a nice 1950’s wooden mini TV. I recorded myself modeling and setting up the render, but CamStudio dropped it, so instead I did this overview. I’ll walk you through the model in 3dsMax, including some tips on how I set up the render in mental ray.

great movie its always good to see how other people attempt the speed modelling. Any chance of an insight into your clay render such as the materials you used since they appear far better than the standard white “standard” material

Can you show us how the SSS and the material to shader works ?
Best regards

Really nice. How many polygons did the final object have, and does that count in those contests?

@ SilverFlame: Glad you liked it! Sure; I’ll see what I can do. This used a slightly different technique that focused more on the lighting than the material. That’s a simple gray clay.
@ Solarie: Ah; I did a Monday Movie about that a while ago. Here’s a link: http://www.mrbluesummers.com/?p=42
It’s a little harder to follow because that was from before I understood how to upload to YouTube properly.
@Red Pill: Lots- I think it was two subdivisions, and I blew a lot of polys in the high-frequency edge areas. Probably in the hundreds of thousands.
